My Story

Before I became a Christian, I did not care what God wanted of me and I didn’t care what people thought of me, but one day all of that changed.  On Easter Sunday morning in 1988, I went to church for the first time since I was a child.  I can’t tell you exactly what the pastor preached, but I can tell you that something was weighing heavily on my heart, namely guilt for a sin that I had committed.  Even as a non-Christian, I knew that what I had done was wrong, and I was incredibly burdened about it.  But along with that was the understanding for the first time in my life that Jesus died for me!  His death was not the act of a martyr trying to draw attention to a cause.  His death was not impersonal.  He died for me!  Knowing that I was in sin, that what I had done was wrong, and that Jesus died for me, led me that morning, to walk forward and to turn my life over to Jesus Christ.

My testimony contains the elements that anyone turning to Christ must experience in their own life. Those elements are:

  1. Understand and admit that you are a sinner (Romans 3:23) who has missed the mark in honoring God with right living.

  2. Understand that the wages, or due payment for your sins is spiritual death which is eternal separation from God in Hell.

  3. Believe that Jesus Christ came and died for you, and that He did while you were yet His enemy, paving the way for eternal life with His Father (see John 3:16, Romans 6:23).

  4. Invite Jesus to enter your heart (Revelation 3:20), asking Him to save you, to forgive you.

  5. Finally, thank Jesus for the work that He has begun in you – it is a work that the Bible says Jesus will continue to do until your death (Philippians 1:6).
